SSNC 2020 Season Update

Hello all Saints Members

Well what a start to the 2020 season so far but here we go – Game 1 this weekend!

I would like to thank each and every one of you for being patient and adhering to restrictions at training while the committee and coaches navigate through this weird time. I want to take this time to thank our amazing coaches and committee, especially Charmaine, our Vice President who guided the club through COVID-19. Without everyone’s dedication to this club I don’t think this season would have been made possible.

As all of you are aware Phase 4 restriction lifted on the 27th of June marking no more restrictions on outdoor activities. What does this mean for netball? Phase 4 restrictions are to be abided by until 18th July.

Unfortunately there will be NO SPECTATORS permitted at games until Phase 5. Netball WA have made it very clear that large Associations such as ours will be prime targets for any negative publicity. We cannot stress enough the importance of EVERYONE sticking to the rules. Parents may escort their child to the court then immediately leave the complex, then return to the court to collect their child after the game.

Key things to note for the next 2 weeks: – No one may enter the courts until 10 mins before their game time – this will make warm ups very short so please be 100% ready to get on court as you come in the gates. See details below.

– There will be physio on site for strapping – make sure you are VERY early to get in before your warm up

– Games will be 12 mins quarters so games will be finished slightly earlier than usual. All players must exit the complex ASAP after the game. Umpires and coaches may move to their next game.

– Fixtures will be on MyNetball later in the week (hopefully Weds) but we do know ODD numbered seniors will play at 2.30pm this week, and evens at 4.00pm

– There will be no canteen open at WDNA – make sure you have water, sports drinks and healthy snacks with you. NO shared lollies or fruit please.

– Ice will be available for Saints players in an esky somewhere TBC (hopefully on the lawn near court 9) as there’ll be no 1st aid on site.

– If you have a cough, cold, sniffle or are otherwise unwell please DO NOT come to the game. Let the coach and manager know ASAP and we will do our best to find fill ins if required. Stay home and get well.

Friday – 13s – 6.35pm down at courts ready to warm up, Game at 6.45pm

12s – 9.50am down at courts ready to warm up, Game at 10.00am

15s – 11.20am down at the courts ready to warm up, Game at 11.30am

18s – 12.50pm down at the courts ready to warm up, Game at 1.00pm

Opens – 2.20pm down at the courts ready to warm up, Game at 2.30pm

Opens – 3.50pm down at the courts ready to warm up, 4.00pm

2 week final series. 12th September 1 vs 3 and 2 vs 4, winners of each will play off in the Grand Final on 19th September.

Presentation Dates:

Senior Presentation: evening of Saturday 19th September (After Grand Final)

Junior Presentation: afternoon of Sunday 20th September

Details to be advised closer to.

For now this is all the information we have to give you, if you have any questions please contact myself or our Vice President Charmine

Kind regards

Alanah Comande

Welcome to the 2020 Season

Welcome to 2020 season – finally!  We have just this week had confirmation that there will be netball season this year! Exciting times.

There is a lot of information below and we ask that you read this then complete the short survey – one for each registered player – so that we can plan for the season ahead. Please complete the survey by Sunday 24 May if possible.  SURVEY AVAILABLE HERE

The season will start on the weekend of Friday 26 June. There will be 10 games then finals in September, being 2 rounds of 5 games, which includes games during the July school holidays.

As you can appreciate there are a number of restrictions that we must all abide by in order to be able to play this winter.  We will be required to complete attendance registers, restrict the access for parents and spectators and implement hygiene protocols.

At this stage no one other than players, coaches, team officials, and umpires will be allowed at games – that means no parents, no spectators, no children or siblings.  Parents may walk their child to the court then they must leave the grounds until the end of the game.

Like everything at this time, these requirements are subject to change – and we hope this changes before we start playing – but we must comply with the current requirements of NWA, WDNA and City of Wanneroo in order to participate as a club.

Another major restriction is that not all courts at WDNA are available for matches and for this reason WDNA have fixtured games on Friday and Monday evenings to enable maximum participation.

Game times as currently fixtured as below.  Note these may be subject to change.

Friday 7.30pm 13 & under

Saturday 10.00am 15 & under (high div’s)

11.30am 15 & under (lower div’s)

1.00pm 18 & under

2.30pm Opens

4.00pm Opens

Monday 6.00pm 12 and under

Game times will be reduced to 12 minute quarters in order to be able to clear the venue between each time slot.

Given it will be a shorter season there is reduction in fees for players. The fees for playing with Sorrento Saints for the 2020 season are now:

Seniors (everyone 18 and over) $275

Juniors (everyone under 18) $260

Any player who has paid more than this for the 2020 season will be refunded the difference.  Please complete the bank details question in the survey to receive your refund.

Children 18 and under whose parent has a Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card, or experiencing financial hardship, may be eligible to apply for Kidsport funding to assist with fees.  More information is available on the DSR website:

Please email if you have, or intend, to apply for Kidsport funding.

We understand that some people’s circumstances may have changed since registration and grading so we are asking that EVERY registered player please complete the survey questions so that as a club we can assess our membership and team allocations in plenty of time to report to WDNA and NWA.

Any player who must withdraw from the 2020 season may request to have any fees paid refunded (including the $150 registration deposit) minus an amount of $30 in order to cover direct costs incurred by the club for the 2020 season to date.  Please complete the bank details question in the survey to receive your refund.

Training can start at WDNA the week of 1 June but more details about training will be sent as soon as we have an amended training schedule to allow for the restrictions in place.

Thank you everyone for your patience and continued support at this time.  We’re looking forward to seeing everyone on court very soon!

REMINDER: Please complete the SURVEY HERE ASAP.

Netball return to training Planning

Most of you would have seen announcements from NWA and WDNA over the past day regarding netball teams being able to return to training.

We just wanted to let everyone know that we are excited by this development, however, there is a lot of information and guidelines and planning required to facilitate our teams getting on court for training and to assure everyone that the Saints Committee is currently in the process of preparing our action plan.
As yet there is no indication on if and when the competition season may start or what format it will take, however WDNA are also working hard behind the scenes to make this happen and will keep us informed.
The plan at this stage is that Saints teams will be able to commence training at WDNA from Tuesday 26 May BUT there are still many unknowns about this – such as whether City of Wanneroo will approve access to the courts.
WDNA are holding a meeting for clubs early in the week after which time we, as a committee, will know more about how we can proceed.  The club committee will also meet during the week to complete the plan and will be able to share it with all coaches and members by the end of the week.
Obviously we are aware that individuals may have experienced considerable upheavals since we all last met and we appreciate that personal circumstances may have changed.  We are also aware there are players who have not heard from their coaches since the last grading/boot camp.  We ask that you please give us time to communicate with our coaches and give them time to understand what’s required of them under the current restrictions and conditions and then they can get in touch to confirm exactly when you’ll start training.
In the meantime please ensure you are preparing yourself as players for training to commence by keeping up your fitness, getting busy with a netball and dusting off your netball shoes!  As always there are plenty of online programs and videos to encourage and inspire you.
If anyone has any concerns about the upcoming season please email the Vice-President, Charmaine McMahon, for assistance.
Further information will be sent to you late next week.
Thank you all for your patience and we look forward to seeing everyone on court very soon!

Update COVID-19

Thank you for your patience at this difficult and confusing time. As notified by Netball WA and WDNA the 2020 Winter Season has been postponed until at least the 30 May 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
In a normal year, we would be finalising our teams and paying our Netball WA & WDNA fees ($155 for Juniors and $163 for Seniors) and it would be imperative that the remainder of fees are paid. In light of the current situation, there will be a delay in finalising the season and I am currently awaiting information from WDNA in regards to fees.
The committee will be meeting next week to discuss processes we need to put in place to ensure we support our members, therefore we are putting on hold the due date to after our meeting on the 27th March 2020. At this stage we may not have an answer for you but as soon as get information from our parent bodies, we will pass on this new information to you. Thank you to those members that have already paid.
In this ever changing climate it is difficult to know what will happen next and I ask that we approach the next stages with patience.
If you have any questions please contact the Treasurer at

Training Cancelled

Sorrento Saints Netball Club has made the decision to cancel netball training and all other events as of Tuesday 17 March until further notice.

We are taking advice on COVID- 19 outbreak from the Commonwealth and State Governments as well as Netball Australia and Netball WA.

This decision has not been made lightly however it is in the best interest of our members and community to follow the guidelines until the outbreak of COVID- 19 is under control.

We encourage our member to stay fit and safe whilst we are in the middle of this pandemic. If you have any questions please direct them to your coaches.

Body Biomechanics: Strength & Conditioning

Netball requires athletes to have speed, agility and strength in addition to their netball specific skills.

As a club, Sorrento Saints players train once per week in a on-court session; Body Biomechanics are would like to offer a second ‘off-court’ strength and conditioning training session to assist players to build their strength and conditioning as per the demands of the game.

These group-based gym sessions will cater to individual needs within a group setting. The idea behind the Strength & Conditioning program is to support player development, particularly as players transition through to higher levels of Netball, to reach their goals and avoid injuries.
